James says “true and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this, to care for widows and orphans in their distress” At Esther’s House we don’t only have a heart for the children of Malawi, but also for the incredible women in our community whose husbands have passed away. These women live in villages near Esther’s House. Many of them are working tirelessly to care for grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They are an amazing and inspiring group of women.
Pure Mission supports 75 widows through its widow sponsorship program. We provide them with seeds and fertilizer to grow crops, cloth to sew dresses and medical care as they age. In some cases, we even match them to one of the children in our community sponsorship program who needs a place to live. In this way, they’re able to care for others even as we are caring for them.
All our widows are elderly and many of the widows we’ve supported have already gone to be with Jesus. That’s why you won’t see all their names listed here: the list changes regularly. Just as soon as Jesus takes one to be with Him, we find another who needs our care, keeping the number steady at 75. So while you won’t be able to build the same sorts of relationships with widows that you can with young children, you’ll still be able to make a tremendous difference in the last years of these women’s lives.
All it takes is $20 a month to care for Mrs. Flones or another woman like her. Please consider giving today!
