"Man does not live by bread alone."

The following is a post written by Matt Deel, a medical student who served as a summer intern at Esther's House Orphanage for 6 weeks.

Well, I'm back in the states. It's good to be home, but I didn't want to leave Malawi. I got back on the evening of July 2nd and my last week was spent traveling with a group of about 35 people from America to villages to do medical work and ministry. The team was led by Dr. Allan Martin out of Northwest Arkansas. His idea is to use the medical clinics to attract crowds while the ministry team preaches to them. We treated around 200 people per day and saw many of them begin to trust Christ.

I've been back for a little over a month, so I've only begun to process all that I've seen and experienced. One of the most important things I've learned is that God is active and moving all over the world. There are many churches in Malawi, and the people are very receptive to hearing about God. One story in particular is about a boy at the orphanage. When he first came to the orphanage he was too weak to climb into his bed and had been alienated from most of the people in his village. But when I saw him, he was happy and healthy and playing with other kids. God had used the orphanage to reach him. I also witnessed first-hand that there's more that sustains people than material security. It happened when I saw the poor sing praises. But that's the Kingdom of God. He "brings low the hills, so the valleys might be filled" and all of the ground is made level. That's why when Jesus was starving He said, "Man doesn't live by bread alone."

I want to say thanks to everyone who contributed through prayer, encouragement, and/or donations. This was an amazing summer, and I couldn't have experienced it without you. I hope you've been blessed through these stories. Thank you!
