Pure Mission Medical Training Center Project
Bringing Hope to Ntcheu
Posted 07/15/2010
On Sunday night, June 27, 2010, what was supposed to be a joyous occasion turned into a devastating tragedy. After four days of labor in a district hospital in Ntcheu, Malawi, a healthy young woman named Gertrude delivered a baby boy via cesarean section. The baby was born alive, but died shortly thereafter, leaving Gertrude, her husband Bruce, and those closest to them reeling in shock and grief.
In Malawi, the infant mortality rate is 83 deaths out of every 1000 live births. Children and adults die every day from illnesses or disease that early medical intervention could have easily treated, if only they had access to it. However, most village residents are unable to travel the long distance to get medical care. Those that are fortunate enough to have access to transportation are sadly faced with overcrowded, understaffed facilities where dedicated work ethic and quality care is either nonexistent or an afterthought at best. Pure Mission wants to bridge that gap and help provide valuable medical care to the village residents of Malawi by building a local medical clinic on the land adjacent to Esther's House.
Pure Mission wants to bring the care where it is needed the most At the very basic level, this training center will serve as a clinic to the people of the Madzange Village. This training center will serve to equip and train front line practitioners, connecting them to the available resources that can make an exponential impact to decrease death rates and increase the quality of life for this region.
The new campus will include a pharmacy, exam rooms, training rooms, administrative offices, and outdoor space needed to conduct large village assemblies for health and hygiene education. It will serve as home base for American residency students and medical mission teams to serve the hospital and villages throughout the district, in addition to providing critically needed medical care such as prenatal care, child immunization, treatment for malaria, HIV and much more.
