Medical Training Center
Malawi, Africa
At the very basic level this training center will serve as a clinic to the people of the Madzange Village. The nearest medical facility is more than 20km away, a distance much too far for sick, pregnant or elderly to walk. The result is the majority of the village population does without even the most basic medical care.
As in many African counties there is enormous need for solutions to provide basic medical needs and health education. The vision for The Esther's House Medical Training Center led by Dr. Alan Martin is to provide a strategic approach to provide solutions for addressing these needs.
Currently in the Central District of Ntcheu in Malawi there is one under-equipped hospital with only one doctor on staff to care of over 500,000 people. Due to the lack of transportation most of these people never make it to the hospital and unfortunately go without basic care leading to the death of thousands every year in this area from preventable disease.
By working together in partnership with the Malawi Ministry of Health, District Commission, Tribal Authority and local village residents, a network of village and mobile clinics can bring the care where it is needed most. This training center will serve to equip and train front line practitioners connecting them to the available resources that can make an exponential impact to decrease death rates and increase the quality of life for this region.
God has begun to move thru the hearts of His people to accomplish this much needed vision. A widow participating in the Esther's House Widow's program selflessly donated land adjacent to the existing Esther's House Campus inspiring others in the village to start molding bricks and providing iron sheets. Another donation was made to ship a container of medical supplies to equip the training center and has already arrived on site.
The new campus will include a pharmacy, exam rooms, training rooms, administrative offices, staff housing and outdoor space needed to conduct large village assemblies for health and hygiene education. It will serve as home base for American residency students and medical mission teams to serve the hospital and villages throughout the district, in addition to providing critically needed medical care such as prenatal care, child immunizations, treatment for malaria, HIV and much more.
